Little Tokyo Neighborhood Tour
May 6th 9am – 12pm
May 6th 1pm – 4pm
In 2024, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named Los Angeles’s Little Tokyo neighborhood one of the nation’s 11 most endangered historic places. For decades, community developers and CDFIs have been working to preserve the rich culture and history of this neighborhood, while progressing its economic development. We will meet with the community development leaders in Little Tokyo, who have achieved some of the most successful place-based community development in all of Los Angeles. A few of the highlights will include the Japanese American National Museum, Union Center for the Arts, the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, and Terasaki Budokan. This walking tour will be presented by Genesis LA — a Los Angeles County-based CDFI — and Little Tokyo Service Center who remains an instrumental CDC in Little Tokyo and beyond. Please note that there is walking on the tour. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water with you.

LA Eastside Neighborhood Tour
May 6th 9am – 12pm
LA’s East Side, a collection of neighborhoods east of the Los Angeles River, gave rise to the Chicano Movement—a civil rights movement advocating for Mexican American empowerment, labor rights, education reform, and social justice. Today, these neighborhoods and communities, associated with a strong sense of Mexican and Latino American identity through art, culture, food, are facing severe displacement pressures. The activism and community development tradition are carried on by many residents and community-based organizations. We will explore real estate and development projects ranging across models and sizes on this LA East Side tour. This tour will be presented by Inclusive Action for the City, a Boyle Heights based economic development organization. Please note that there is walking on the tour. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water with you.

Community Spaces Tour
May 6th 1pm – 4pm
See social purpose real estate in action on the community spaces tour. We will visit three different community spaces in different parts of Los Angeles: Legacy LA, La Mas, and Homeboy Industries. In each space, we’ll learn about the mission of the organization, the programs they run, and the community impact they have. It is a chance to learn from peers on how they run their space, building operations, and community animation.
